A 15-year-old boy, identified as John Thomas (known as “Majay”), was fatally shot on Halloween afternoon near the ABLA Homes in Chicago, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The tragic incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. on Friday, October 31st, 2025, near the intersection of Grenshaw and Throop on the city’s West Side.
Chicago Police (CPD) responded to calls of a person shot and found John Thomas on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and thigh.
Ambush on a Bicycle
Police reports indicate that Thomas was simply riding his bicycle on the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle pulled up next to him.
Someone inside the car immediately began firing shots at the teen before the vehicle sped away from the scene.
Emergency responders performed CPR before rushing him to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The crime scene investigation recovered multiple shell casings, pointing to a rapid and targeted attack.
Area 3 Detectives have launched a homicide investigation, but as of now, no suspects are in custody.
The community is mourning the loss of the young victim, with calls for justice intensifying in the wake of the holiday tragedy.
