Nigerian singer Joeboy was left counting his losses and eating humble pie after Arsenal delivered a stunning 3-0 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash on Tuesday.
The “Sip (Alcohol)” hitmaker had taken to social media just hours before the match to flaunt his confidence in the Spanish giants. Sharing a screenshot of his betting slip worth N3 million, Joeboy wrote, “Cashing out on Arsenal tears tonight!” His gamble, however, would end in tears of his own.
He went ahead before the game to diss Odumodublvck who is a die-hard Arsenal fan and a friend to Declan Rice.
Had Real Madrid triumphed at the Emirates, Joeboy stood to cash out a whopping N10,345,000. But the Gunners had other plans.
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice put on a show for the home fans, curling in two superb free-kicks in either half to send the Emirates into a frenzy. As if that wasn’t enough, Mikel Merino added a third late in the game to seal a memorable victory and leave the Madrid side stunned.
At the final whistle, a speechless Joeboy had only one word for his fans on X (formerly Twitter): “Goodnight.”
The unexpected scoreline has now tilted the odds in Arsenal’s favour as they head into the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday. While Madrid will be aiming for a historic comeback, Arsenal’s commanding display gives them a strong chance to book their spot in the semi-finals.
For Joeboy, the defeat is a harsh reminder that football can be wildly unpredictable, and sometimes, passion bets can come with a heavy price.
