Afrobeats star Iyanya has responded to fans accusing him of choosing sides in the ongoing rift between his fellow music heavyweights, Wizkid and Davido. The singer, who once teamed up with Wizkid on the hit track ‘Sexy Mama,’ found himself at the center of controversy after fans observed his recent support for Davido’s music on social media.
The long-standing beef between Wizkid and Davido reignited last year, playing out in heated exchanges on social media that divided fanbases and sparked widespread debate in the Afrobeats community. While both artists continue to push their music globally, their fan groups remain locked in rivalry, often dragging fellow artists into the crossfire.
On Wednesday, a fan identified as @Akubasteeny on X called out Iyanya under one of his posts, questioning his allegiance. “I thought Wiz was your friend. I am just wondering why you switched side and turned into Davido’s boy,” the fan wrote.
In a calm yet firm response, Iyanya dismissed the allegations and clarified that he has no issues with any artist in the industry. He emphasized his appreciation for good music, regardless of who the artist is, and criticized fans for stoking unnecessary rivalry.
“I don’t have an issue with any artiste. I played Wizkid’s ‘Made in Lagos’ and ‘Morayo,’ the same way I play every other artiste’s songs. Most artistes will not say this, artistes are the first to listen to other artistes projects when they drop. Na our work to know what’s happening in the game in terms of sound etc.
“I was playing Fola’s songs before he had a big song that’s cos @ubifranklin1 loves listening to a lot of new artists and he will always introduce me to their sound.
“Fireboy ‘Adedamola’ album, Joeboy ‘Viva Lavida’ album, I Dey play all and I tell you me no get enemy o. So make una stop this friend or no friend. Me and Burna still see for club 3 weeks ago and we vibe well.
Na una fans dey try dey push agenda wey no dey,” he concluded.
Iyanya’s response sheds light on the pressure artists face from fans who often interpret professional support or silence as rivalry or betrayal. His message is a reminder that the music industry thrives on collaboration, not division.
