Nollywood actress and outspoken activist, Iyabo Ojo, has taken legal action against the Nigeria Police Force, filing a formal petition to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, over what she describes as serious professional misconduct involving officers of the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF‑NCC) and controversial influencer, VeryDarkMan.
According to a petition dated July 29, 2025, and filed through her legal team, The Maverick Forte Legal, the actress accused the NPF‑NCC of compromising professional standards during her recent interrogation at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The document, which has since been widely circulated online, alleges that during her questioning, civilian influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, was allowed access to the interrogation room despite being a defendant in a separate but related case in which she is a witness.
Iyabo Ojo maintained that the unauthorized access was granted by Commissioner of Police, CP Ifeanyi Henry Uche, citing an “improper relationship” between the senior police officer and VeryDarkMan as the reason behind the unusual privilege.
She further alleged that sensitive details from her interrogation session were leaked online by VeryDarkMan, compromising the integrity of the process and breaching her rights to privacy and a fair hearing.
As a result of the incident, the actress has declared her refusal to participate in any further sessions with the Abuja office of the police. She is calling for the immediate transfer of the case to Lagos State for what she describes as a more “independent investigation,” free from bias or personal affiliations.
Iyabo Ojo emphasized in her petition the urgent need to put an end to what she called a “tainted and partial inquiry,” stressing that the incident has eroded her trust in the current investigation process.
The ongoing legal drama stems from her vocal role in the campaign seeking justice for the late singer Mohbad. The actress has been one of the most prominent public figures calling out music executive Naira Marley over his alleged involvement in Mohbad’s controversial death. Her stance has drawn both praise and criticism and now, it appears, it’s also drawing legal and procedural complications.
The petition has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning how a civilian like VeryDarkMan was allowed into such a sensitive session. It also raises concerns about confidentiality, professionalism, and potential conflict of interest within the ranks of the NPF‑NCC.
As of now, the Nigeria Police Force has yet to respond officially to the petition. However, the issue continues to unfold, adding yet another chapter to the already complex and high-profile case surrounding Mohbad’s tragic death and the storm of controversies it has left in its wake.
