Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo has shed light on why marriage is off the table in her relationship with popular Nigerian music executive, Paul Okoye, also known as Paulo.

In a recent interview on TVC, the award-winning actress and reality TV personality explained that their love story thrives outside the traditional bounds of marriage. Iyabo made it clear that both she and Paulo are comfortable with their current arrangement and do not feel the need to tie the knot.

“Because of the nature of my work, I’m such a workaholic, and Paulo is also a workaholic. That Igbo man likes to work,” she said with a smile. “For me, there are times when I want to be alone, I just pack my bags and return back to my house. We never fight over that because he understands.”

The actress, who turned 45 in December 2022, the same time she publicly confirmed her relationship with Paulo emphasized her need for personal space and freedom as a major reason why marriage doesn’t fit into their equation.

“We don’t want marriage,” she stated matter-of-factly. “I value my privacy.”

Despite public curiosity and the pressures often associated with celebrity relationships, Iyabo Ojo and Paulo have managed to maintain a bond built on mutual understanding and respect. Their relationship, she says, is uniquely tailored to suit their lifestyles and personalities.

Iyabo’s revelation comes as a refreshing perspective in a society where marriage is often considered the ultimate goal in romantic relationships. Her stance is a bold reminder that love and companionship can thrive in unconventional ways, and that happiness, above all, is what truly matters.
