A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed Thursday afternoon shortly after classes let out at a Cicero high school.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as Johan Adaree-Sanchez.
The shooting took place around 3:20 p.m. in the 2100 block of South 59th Avenue.
This location is just a short distance from Morton East High School.
Police officers arrived at the scene to find the teenager suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders rushed Sanchez to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Morton East High School confirmed in a Facebook statement that the victim was one of their students.
School officials expressed deep sadness and stated they are cooperating fully with the Cicero Police Department.
The school also urged the public to stop sharing unverified rumors circulating on social media.
A Crisis Team will be available on campus to support students and staff during this difficult time.
As of Friday morning, Cicero police are still investigating the motive behind the attack.
No suspects are in custody, and no arrests have been made at this time.
