The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly invited billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote to appear before its investigators over corruption allegations involving the former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.
According to sources familiar with the development, Dangote is expected to honour the invitation on Monday, December 22, or send a representative to formally adopt and substantiate the petition he submitted to the commission.
It was gathered that the ICPC has constituted a special panel of senior investigators to handle the case due to its sensitivity and public interest implications.
In his petition, Dangote accused Ahmed of corruption, alleging that the former NMDPRA boss spent over seven million dollars on the education of his children in Switzerland. He also alleged that Ahmed approved petroleum import licences that undermined local refining efforts and negatively impacted Nigeria’s energy sector.
ICPC officials reportedly said Ahmed’s resignation from office does not affect the ongoing investigation, emphasizing that the matter remains of significant public concern.
Sources disclosed that Dangote will be required to present supporting documents and evidence before the former regulator is invited to respond to the allegations.
The anti-graft agency assured that the probe would be carried out impartially and in line with existing anti-corruption laws.
The investigation follows a series of disputes earlier in 2025 between the Dangote Refinery and the NMDPRA over fuel importation policies and regulatory decisions.
