Residents of Ibeju Lekki in Lagos have spoken out against their local king, accusing him of planning to tear down their family homes to make way for a new palace.
The community members say they will not back down, even if it means facing police action.
In a strong statement shared online, locals expressed their anger. They said, “We are all citizens of Ibeju Lekki. We would rather die than allow you to demolish our fathers’ houses to build your palace. You said you will bring the police to forcefully evict us, we are waiting.”
The king in question is HRM Oba Waliu Rasaki Olasunkanmi Oguntolu Oniwolu, the Onibeju of Ibeju Kingdom.
Residents claim he wants to take over land that belongs to their families.
They describe him as greedy and manipulative, saying he twists facts to get what he wants.
This is not the first time Ibeju Lekki has seen such conflicts.
In past years, people in nearby areas like Oluwa and Okegun Museyo have protested against house demolitions by government teams.
But this case points directly at the king, with locals feeling their leader is betraying them.
One resident group, Ibeju Lekki Decide, shared details of the accusations.
They say the king exploits others and takes land without fair reason.
The community now waits to see if police will step in, as the king reportedly threatened.
Local leaders have not yet responded to these claims.
The situation remains tense, with residents calling for fairness and protection of their homes.
As Lagos grows, such land disputes continue to affect everyday people.
