Residents of Gbetu Iwerekun in the Ibeju Lekki area are pleading with the Lagos State Government for help, as they face severe flooding and a lack of proper drainage.
According to a resident who spoke to BestLagos.ng, the community has been without a good drainage system for the past 15 years, and the situation has never been worse than it was yesterday.
The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said that despite promises from the local government to provide a road and drainage in October 2024, no action has been taken.
“The local government promised road and drainage last year, but later said the state government had taken over the project,” the resident said.
“Lagos State government is aware, but we have received no response till date. The signpost is still there at the beginning of the street.”
The resident explained that the community has been consistently ignored by officials, and no ministry representative has ever visited to assess the situation or plan a solution.
The lack of a proper drainage system has left the community vulnerable to the heavy rains that frequently hit Lagos, causing significant damage and discomfort to residents.
The angry resident emphasized that they have lost hope as there seems to be no solution in sight.
