Renowned Nigerian rapper and music executive, Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I, has expressed deep regret over his past support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), admitting that the party has failed to meet his expectations.
Speaking candidly during a recent episode of the Menism podcast, the African Rapper No 1 hitmaker reflected on his political stance during the 2015 general elections, revealing that he once strongly believed the APC was the better alternative to the then-ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which he considered plagued by corruption at the time.
“I tweeted about the thing [herdsmen attacks] that happened in Benue and a lot of people were saying, ‘But M.I, you supported the APC,’” the rapper recalled during the podcast conversation.
“Yes, I supported APC because at that time, I felt that the PDP government was very corrupt. I was part of the people who lifted my voice to say, ‘Let us stand and bring in democracy.’”
However, nearly a decade later, the rapper admits that the reality of the APC’s governance has left him disillusioned.
“As human being, no matter how much you try to be right, you will be wrong [sometimes]. APC unfortunately isn’t the APC of my dreams.”
M.I’s honest reflection struck a chord with many listeners, especially young Nigerians who once saw him as a voice of conscious change and accountability.
Now, the award-winning lyricist says his focus has shifted. Rather than aligning with political parties, he is choosing to leverage his influence and artistic voice to inspire collective action among Nigeria’s youth.
He emphasized the need for unity and collaboration in rebuilding the nation, stressing that real change will come from citizens who are willing to hold leadership accountable while also doing their part.
With his statement, M.I joins a growing list of public figures re-evaluating their political choices and using their platforms to advocate for transparency, equity, and youth-driven leadership.
