Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has addressed the controversy surrounding his estranged marriage to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, insisting that he never pursued her for marriage.
The disclosure comes in the wake of widespread criticism following Regina’s recent allegations of domestic abuse, in which she revealed that she is no longer interested in continuing the six-year union. In response, Nwoko accused the actress of substance abuse and suggested that she attend a rehabilitation center.
The public exchange ignited nationwide debate, with many Nigerians, including celebrities questioning the circumstances under which the marriage took place. Critics have also raised concerns over the age at which the actress married, calling for Nwoko’s resignation from the Senate.
Addressing the issue, Ned Nwoko released a statement via his Communication and Technical Action Team, clarifying the timeline and circumstances of the marriage. He emphasized that Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, personally brought her to him for marriage and that he had witnesses to this fact.
“For clarity, Regina Daniels was born October 10, 2000. If she has been married to me for 6 years, that means she married at 19 and not 17. The public witnessed her family giving her away in marriage. There were witnesses to the fact that her mother personally brought her to me. I never went after her,” Nwoko stated.
The senator’s remarks aim to correct public misconceptions about the marriage while reinforcing that he did not initiate or pursue the union. The issue has continued to attract attention across social media platforms, highlighting the intense public scrutiny faced by high-profile marriages in Nigeria.
