Nigerian media personality and rapper, Nnamdi Nwabasili, popularly known as N6, has revealed his unexpected role in igniting the fierce rivalry between two of Nigeria’s top lyricists, M.I Abaga and Vector Tha Viper.
In a candid discussion, N6 disclosed that his diss track aimed at M.I’s controversial 2017 hit, ‘You Rappers Should Fix Up Your Lives,’ was the catalyst that set off a chain reaction. While N6 intended to respond creatively to M.I’s provocative lyrics, he didn’t anticipate the storm it would unleash in the Nigerian rap scene.
“I did a reply track to M.I’s diss track ‘You Rappers Should Fix Up Your Lives,’ but instead of a full-blown rap beef, he responded with tweets,” N6 recounted. “So, I decided to take it further with ‘You Should Fix Up Your Life, Too,’ which prompted M.I to fire back with around 18 tweets.”
The ripple effect of N6’s lyrical challenge didn’t stop there. According to him, Vector Tha Viper seized the opportunity presented by the escalating tension to launch his own scathing attacks on M.I, setting the stage for one of Nigerian music’s most talked-about rivalries.
“M.I’s initial song sparked responses from other rappers, but they were diplomatic,” N6 explained. “My track, however, struck a nerve. It was raw and unapologetic, which I believe is why M.I singled me out among the thousands of replies he received.”
Reflecting on his approach to rap beefs, N6 emphasized his preference for maintaining positive relationships with fellow artists, driven by confidence in his own talent. Yet, his decision to engage with M.I on a critical level inadvertently escalated tensions and reshaped the landscape of Nigerian hip-hop.
The revelation underscores the unpredictable dynamics of music rivalries and the power of individual voices to influence larger narratives within the industry. N6’s involvement serves as a reminder of how a single track can spark a firestorm of creativity, controversy, and ultimately, cultural significance.
