Nigerian rapper, Odumodublvck, has revealed how his past struggles with illicit drugs nearly cost him his life. The fast-rising star, best known for his hit track “Pity The Boy,” shared the emotional story during a recent appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast.
Opening up about his days as a student at the University of Lagos, the rapper confessed that he heavily indulged in illicit substances, which eventually led to a near-fatal overdose.
“I was a very bright student while studying at the University of Lagos. But I was indulging in illicit drugs. One day, I took it and almost died. I called my mother to book my flight to return to Abuja. After that incident, I only took drugs once before quitting,” he recounted.
Odumodublvck explained that the turning point came after he narrowly escaped death. Though he admitted to taking drugs once more after the incident, he eventually quit completely. He said he remains grateful to God for surviving an experience that has claimed the lives of many.
“I’m grateful because there are some people that went into that life [illicit substance consumption] and they didn’t make it out. Some people didn’t make it alive, some had lost people to it like they died because of drug abuse. Some even committed suicide due to drug overdose. I’ve seen a pregnant woman and her husband battling drug addiction. It’s really terrible!” he added.
Using his story as a cautionary tale, the rapper urged young people to stay away from drug abuse, stressing that the consequences could be deadly.
His revelation has since sparked conversations on social media, with many praising him for his honesty and courage to speak openly about an issue that continues to affect youths in Nigeria and beyond.
