A federal agency provoked immediate controversy today after issuing an aggressive and mocking statement addressing protesters who gathered at the Broadview ICE Facility near Chicago. The statement used inflammatory language to describe both the demonstrators and the detainees.
The official communication, which quickly circulated online, mocked those calling for detainees’ release, declaring: “Womp womp, cry all you want. These criminal illegal aliens aren’t getting released.”
Protesters Labeled “Imbecilic Morons”
The message did not stop at simply refusing the protesters’ demands. It escalated to personally insulting the citizens who arrived at the Broadview detention center to demonstrate.
The agency stated that “violent rioters” had arrived to demand the release of “some of the worst human beings on planet earth.” The post concluded with a direct, personal insult: “Get a job you imbecilic morons.”
The statement is highly unusual for a federal entity, which typically relies on formal press releases and measured language. Instead, this message utilized social media rhetoric and unverified claims, sparking immediate outrage and accusations of unprofessional conduct.
All detainees were broadly categorized as “criminal illegal aliens,” a claim that cannot be verified for every person held inside the facility. Protesters had arrived at the site demanding the release of detainees, who were reported to be held in challenging conditions.
The controversy is expected to escalate as civil rights groups and Democratic leaders respond to the agency’s use of inflammatory and mocking language directed at U.S. citizens exercising their right to protest.
