Barcelona legend David Villa has tipped Lamine Yamal to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or award following his impressive performances for the club this season.
Yamal has been a key player for Barcelona this season with a series of match-winning performances that has delivered the Copa dey Rey and the La Liga title.
He was instrumental in Barcelona’s dominant victory over Real Madrid last week, scoring a curling effort to set the team on the way to victory.
The La Masia academy graduate also shone like a gold fish in Barcelona’s Champions League tie against Inter Milan.
Villa, who played for Barcelona between 2010, and 2013 has backed Yamal to win the award.
When asked if Lamine Yamal could win the Ballon d’Or this year, Villa responded.
He said: “The season isn’t over yet. He’s done enough to be considered, although I’ve never been a huge believer in that award. But I’m sure he’ll win it someday.
“We can’t forget that he’s still just a kid. He’ll have rough patches, and that’s when we all need to be there for him. His potential is incredible, but he needs guidance.”
Villa also rvealed that Yamal could have made the starting lineup of the Spanish team that won the World Cup in 2010.
He concluded: “It’s hard to compare generations, but what Yamal has is unique. His skill level is so extraordinary that he could play in any era and in any team.”
Yamal has scored 16 goals and recorded 24 assists in all competitions for Barcelona this season, and he is on course to winning his second La Liga title on Thursday.
