Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has flown to the United States to attend the much-anticipated wedding of his superstar nephew, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The trip, which comes amid political murmurs from opposition voices in Osun, was confirmed in an official statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Tuesday.
Davido had earlier confirmed during an April 8, 2025, interview on The Breakfast Club that he and his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, would be tying the knot in a white wedding ceremony scheduled for August 2025 in Miami, Florida.
The Adeleke family, known for their strong ties and public showings of support, is now rallying for what promises to be a grand celebration in the United States.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” Rasheed stated.
Amid questions raised by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) about the governor’s sudden absence, the statement clarified that Adeleke’s trip was strictly personal and brief.
“His Excellency is extending an invitation to the opposition party to attend the event and share in the joy of the occasion with the Adeleke family,” Rasheed added. “Those unable to attend may join virtually.”
Governor Adeleke, popularly dubbed the “dancing governor” for his vibrant personality and frequent viral dance videos, has remained actively engaged in state duties since assuming office in November 2022.
Rasheed emphasized this commitment, noting: “Additionally, from the November 2022 date, the governor has not gone on official vacation.”
He assured Osun residents that governance remains uninterrupted during the governor’s brief trip: “For this current trip, the Governor has again chosen to make it a short one to continually attend to crucial state functions.
“Meanwhile, the Governor is in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is supervising activities of the government.”
With Davido’s wedding already drawing attention from fans, celebrities, and politicians alike, all eyes are now on Miami for what may be one of the most star-studded events of the year. And leading the family delegation in style is none other than the ever-vibrant Governor Adeleke.
