The Nigerian gospel music industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of renowned gospel singer and minister, Bolaji Olarewaju, fondly known as Big Bolaji or Big B. His death was confirmed by his family in an official statement released on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
According to the family, the beloved minister passed away on Easter Saturday after a brief illness.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bolaji Olarewaju, affectionately known as ‘Big B,’ a cherished father, husband, brother, and an esteemed figure in the church and music community,” the statement read. “Bolaji left us on Easter Saturday, April 19, 2025, following a brief illness.”
Big Bolaji, who only recently marked his 50th birthday, was a towering figure in the gospel music scene, known for his energetic performances, inspiring messages, and deep commitment to his faith. He was an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and also gained recognition as a radio talk show host.
His journey in gospel music began with the group J’apha, and over the years, he became a celebrated solo act with a ministry that spanned decades. His voice and messages touched lives across Nigeria and beyond, making him a household name in Christian circles.
