A joint operation by federal marshals and Chicago police apprehends Giovanni Jasso after an August daylight shooting left a man wounded on the North Side.

A daylight shooting on Chicago’s North Side led to attempted murder charges against a 20-year-old suspect.

The violent incident unfolded at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

A 26-year-old man stood in the street in the 6500 block of North Sacramento Avenue.

That block falls directly within the boundaries of the Chicago Police Department’s 24th District.

An armed individual approached the victim while riding a bicycle through the West Ridge neighborhood.

The bicyclist produced a firearm and fired multiple shots toward the 26-year-old man.

At least one bullet struck the victim directly in his left leg during the sudden attack.

Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene and treated the wounded pedestrian.

Paramedics transported the victim to St. Francis Hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound.

Medical staff evaluated the victim and listed him in good condition following his arrival.

Responding officers cordoned off the street to gather physical evidence and locate surveillance camera footage.

Detectives opened a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the mid-day shooting.

Investigators eventually identified 20-year-old Giovanni Jasso as the gunman on the bicycle.

Jasso maintains a listed home address in the 2300 block of West Granville Avenue.

Law enforcement officers tracked Jasso to a suburban location just outside the city limits.

Members of the Chicago Police Department joined forces with federal agents to execute the arrest warrant.

The U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force located Jasso on October 6, 2026.

Officers took Jasso into custody in the 500 block of Des Plaines Avenue in Forest Park, Illinois.

Police processed the suspect and transferred his case details to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors formally charged Jasso with one felony count of first-degree attempted murder.

Jasso also faces one felony count of aggravated battery involving the discharge of a firearm.

Court records indicate an additional felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon involving a machine gun or automatic weapon near a school or park.

A judge issued an arrest warrant prior to the joint apprehension in Forest Park.

Jasso faces a scheduled detention hearing on October 7, 2026.

The court proceeding takes place at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse at 2600 South California Avenue.

Mid-day gun violence creates significant concerns for families living along North Sacramento Avenue.

Local neighborhood watch programs encourage residents to share private security footage with 24th District detectives.

Community leaders remind neighbors to report suspicious individuals or unknown cyclists lingering near residential streets.

Authorities confirmed that no additional details are available as the court case moves forward.
