New information and home surveillance video have revealed chilling details about the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy in Chicago’s Garfield Park neighborhood this week, indicating the victim was targeted in a swift and brutal ambush.
The victim, identified as David Mason Jr., known on the street as “Lil Dave,” was fatally shot on Tuesday afternoon in the 4100 block of West End Avenue.
Details of the 17-Second Attack
According to video footage reviewed by detectives, the attack was a planned operation involving multiple assailants:
- The Wait: Five armed men were waiting in a parked car on the quiet street.
- The Target: At approximately 2:30 p.m., Mason approached on an electric scooter.
- The Ambush: As Mason slowed down near a speed bump, all four doors of the parked car opened simultaneously.
- The Fire: The gunmen, all dressed in black with hooded sweatshirts, immediately began firing a barrage of bullets. Some of their weapons were reportedly fitted with extended magazines.
From the moment the car doors opened until the vehicle drove away, only 17 seconds passed. Mason instantly ditched his scooter and fled the camera’s view.
He was later found collapsed on the grass near the sidewalk.
He was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Chicago police have not yet released a motive for the attack or made any arrests as the homicide investigation continues.
