A 35-year-old man is facing first-degree murder charges following a deadly shooting on Chicago’s South Side last year.
Authorities arrested Jameel Murphy, also 35, on January 5, 2026.
Members of the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshal Great Lakes Regional Task Force located Murphy in Crown Point, Indiana, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Police identified Murphy as the gunman who fatally shot a 35-year-old man on November 12, 2025.
The shooting took place in the 7600 block of S. Stony Island Ave. within the city’s 4th District.
Murphy was extradited back to Chicago and officially charged with one felony count of First-Degree Murder.
A detention hearing for Murphy is scheduled for today, January 7, 2026, at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California Ave.
No further details regarding a motive or the identity of the victim have been released at this time.
