Former Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, is dead.
Nwaoboshi reportedly passed away after battling a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed on Friday in a statement issued by Festus Ahon, Chief Press Secretary to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
Reacting to the sad development, Governor Oborevwori described the former lawmaker’s passing as a painful loss to Delta State, the Anioma people, and Nigeria at large.
The governor noted that Nwaoboshi was a bold and influential voice for Anioma interests and a respected political leader whose impact on national development would be remembered for years to come.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the loss of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” Oborevwori said.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the Anioma nation, members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and all those whose lives he touched through his service.”
Governor Oborevwori recalled Nwaoboshi’s active and impactful tenure in the National Assembly, highlighting his role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, where he championed development initiatives for the Niger Delta and Delta State.
He further noted that the late senator’s political career was rooted in strong political heritage, selfless leadership, and an unwavering commitment to democratic values.
Nwaoboshi also served two terms as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, reflecting his deep involvement in party politics and governance.
Describing him as a committed public servant, the governor said the late senator dedicated his life to the service of his people, his party, and the nation, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and dedication to public service.
Senator Peter Nwaoboshi served in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023.
