Former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, has reportedly passed away in Saudi Arabia, throwing the Nigerian legal community into mourning.
Sources disclosed that the retired jurist died on Tuesday morning while undergoing medical treatment in the Middle Eastern country. His death marks the end of a long and distinguished career in Nigeria’s judiciary.
Justice Muhammad served in the judicial system for several decades, rising through the ranks to become the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the highest judicial office in the country. He stepped down from the position in June 2022, citing health-related challenges.
Reacting to the development, the Nigerian Association of Muslim Law Students (NAMLAS) described his passing as a profound loss to the judiciary, the legal profession, the Muslim community, and the nation at large.
The association noted that Justice Muhammad was widely respected for his dedication to justice, fairness, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
Beyond the courtroom, he was also known as a mentor who inspired and guided many young lawyers and Muslim law students, leaving a lasting impact on the legal profession in Nigeria.
