A massive fire tore through the Jincheng Company recycling facility at 11B Eric Moore Road, Surulere, on Monday, May 5, 2025, causing extensive damage.
The blaze, reported at 12:15 p.m., consumed much of the three-acre plant, with thick smoke visible across Lagos.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded swiftly, with firefighters from Sari-Iganmu Fire Station joined by the Ajegunle Fire Crew to tackle the intense fire.
Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Fire Service, said the fire likely started at the rear of the main building due to negligence, fueled by large piles of cardboard used in recycling.
“No casualties have been reported, and the fire is now under control,” Adeseye stated, noting ongoing efforts to fully extinguish the blaze.
The full extent of the damage is still being evaluated, but early reports suggest significant losses.
