An explosive video has surfaced showing U.S. federal agents illegally deploying pepper spray into a moving vehicle containing a father and his one-year-old child in a Sam’s Club parking lot in Cicero, Illinois, on Saturday.
The incident occurred during an immigration enforcement operation that spanned Little Village and Cicero.
The footage, now circulating widely, documents what legal experts are calling a blatant abuse of authority and a serious federal civil rights violation.
Family Targeted While Leaving
The family stated they had visited Sam’s Club to purchase groceries. Upon noticing the presence of federal agents and helicopters in the area, they decided to leave immediately to avoid any trouble.
As the family’s vehicle attempted to exit the parking lot, agents in a black pickup truck drove past in the opposite direction.
Agents reportedly threw pepper spray directly into the driver’s side window as the two vehicles passed.
The chemical agent hit the driver directly in the face, severely affecting him while his one-year-old child sat in the back seat.
Abuse of Authority and Child Endangerment
Officials and legal commentators have strongly condemned the action. They argue there is no lawful or moral justification for deploying a chemical weapon into a moving car traveling the opposite way, noting that the reckless use of force created a high risk of tragedy and constitutes child endangerment.
This incident is expected to significantly escalate scrutiny over the aggressive and dangerous tactics federal agents are using in Chicago-area neighborhoods.
