A heartbroken Chicago family is offering a $12,000 reward to find the person responsible for a shooting that led to the death of a 22-year-old woman just days before Christmas.
The incident occurred Saturday morning around 8:30 a.m. in the South Deering neighborhood.
According to Chicago police, Isis Ogunti was driving to work near the 2000 block of East 103rd Street when another vehicle pulled alongside her, and someone inside opened fire.
Ogunti’s mother, Kashia Collins, says her daughter’s boyfriend was hit by the gunfire.
In a desperate attempt to save him, Ogunti tried to rush to the hospital but lost control of her SUV and crashed into a tree.
“I know it was her final moments, and I also know that I’m happy that I was the last call that she made,” Collins said, recalling a FaceTime call she received from her daughter during the chaos.
Ogunti later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Her 28-year-old boyfriend remains in serious condition. The shooter fled the scene and remains at large.
