Family of Three Killed in Otedola Bridge Crash, Truck Driver Flees

A tragic multi-vehicle collision early this morning at the Secretariat inward Otedola Bridge on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway has claimed the lives of an entire family, a father, a mother, and their young child.

The fatal crash, which involved three vehicles (Audi, Toyota Camry, and Toyota Corolla), was reportedly triggered by a heavily loaded truck speeding excessively.

Preliminary reports indicate the truck violently struck one vehicle from behind, causing a devastating chain-reaction involving two other moving cars.

Two Survivors Rescued, Truck Driver Flees

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was on the scene immediately.

Rescue: LASTMA operatives, working with other emergency services, successfully rescued two victims who were critically injured and trapped in the wreckage. They were quickly taken to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre for urgent medical care.
Recovery: The bodies of the three deceased family members, tragically trapped together, were recovered and handed over to SEHMU for evacuation.

In a disturbing turn, the truck driver responsible for the crash immediately fled the scene with their vehicle, evading responsibility for the fatal incident.

LASTMA GM Expresses Grief and Warns Drivers

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the loss as an “unbearable and irreplaceable loss of an entire family.” He offered prayers and comfort to the bereaved relatives.

Mr. Bakare-Oki also issued a stern warning to drivers of heavy and articulated trucks. He emphasized that excessive speed is a primary cause of road fatalities and urged all motorists to strictly follow speed limits and practice defensive driving.

The accident vehicles were swiftly evacuated by LASTMA personnel with support from the Isheri Olowora Police Division, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), LASEMA, LASAMBUS, SEHMU, and the Lagos Fire & Rescue Service to prevent secondary accidents and restore traffic flow.
