The family of Christian Doss has confirmed that the body discovered Saturday morning near Archer Avenue and LaGrange Road is that of the missing 21-year-old.
Doss had been the subject of a widespread search since he disappeared from Justice, Illinois, on November 7.
On Sunday, family members shared the heartbreaking news that the Willow Springs discovery provided the closure they had been seeking, though under tragic circumstances.
Christian Doss was last seen near 83rd Street and 88th Avenue in Justice at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 7.
A missing persons report was filed with the Willow Springs Police Department on Nov. 10.
Doss was described as 6 feet tall, weighing 164 lbs, with black hair, brown eyes, and several piercings.
In a statement shared with the community, the family thanked the public for their prayers and support during the month-long search.
“The world became too heavy for him, and we pray he is now at peace,” the family stated.
They also noted that due to the circumstances of his death, life insurance will not cover the funeral expenses.
A GoFundMe has been established to help the family with service costs.
“I’m thankful for the precious gift of closure, which has allowed our family to begin the healing process,” a family member added.
The Willow Springs Police Department has not yet released further details regarding the investigation.
