ELMHURST, IL — Police are warning West Suburban residents to stay vigilant after a group of thieves targeted several vehicles early Wednesday morning.
Surveillance footage captured a masked individual attempting to open a car door around 4 a.m. near the intersection of Holly Avenue and May Street.
The video shows multiple people running through the neighborhood while a white sedan with no license plates follows slowly down the street.
Authorities confirmed that four unlocked cars in the area were burglarized during the spree.
Police noted that the suspects appeared to be looking for easy targets, focusing specifically on vehicles left unsecured.
The white sedan used by the crew was later spotted speeding eastbound on I-290.
Investigators determined the car matched the description of a vehicle recently stolen in Chicago.
The sedan was eventually found abandoned on the city’s South Side.
A similar incident occurred Wednesday morning in Morton Grove, where a confrontation involving a burglary crew led to shots being fired.
Police are investigating whether the two incidents are linked to the same group.
Elmhurst police are urging all residents to:
-
Lock car doors at all times, even when parked in driveways.
-
Remove all valuables, including bags, electronics, and spare keys.
-
Report suspicious activity or unfamiliar vehicles immediately.
