Veteran Nigerian music producer and Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has taken to social media to celebrate his impressive production credits on Billboard’s recently released “50 Best Afrobeats Songs of All Time” list.
The list, which has been sparking debates across the music industry, features six tracks produced by Don Jazzy, making him the Afrobeats producer with the highest number of production credits on the compilation.
Taking to his official X handle, the legendary hitmaker wrote:
“Inside the 50 I sha produced 6. I try Abi I no try.”
His productions on the list cut across an era that defined modern Afrobeats, spanning collaborations with some of Nigeria’s biggest stars. They include:
Wande Coal’s classic singles “Bumper 2 Bumper” and “Kiss Your Hand”
D’banj’s global hit “Oliver Twist” and fan favourite “Fall In Love”
Tiwa Savage’s “Eminado”
The Mavin All-Stars anthem “Dorobucci”
These tracks, released under his now-defunct Mo’ Hits Records and later Mavin Records, were pivotal in shaping the Afrobeats sound that has gone on to dominate global airwaves.
Don Jazzy’s acknowledgment of the recognition is a reminder of his longstanding impact on the genre. For over two decades, he has been behind some of Afrobeats’ biggest hits, launching and nurturing the careers of artists like D’banj, Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage, Rema, Ayra Starr, and Korede Bello.
With this achievement, Don Jazzy has once again cemented his legacy as one of the architects of modern Afrobeats, a sound that continues to make waves across the world.
