Delta Maintains Top Position At 2024 National Sports Festival

Delta State held on to the top of the National Sports Festival after the end of activities on Tuesday with a whopping 193 medals.

The defending champions boast of 81 gold, 47 silver, and 65 bronze for a total of 193 medals.

Up next in the second position is Bayelsa State with 50 gold, 36 silver, and 40 bronze to rack up a total of 126 medals.

The hosts, Ogun State, moved up from fourth to third with 46 gold, 31 silver, and 42 bronze, totalling 113 medals.

Edo State occupy the fourth position with 42 gold, 74 silver, and 65 bronze to make it a total of 181 medals.

In fifth, Rivers State has 42 gold, 34 silver, and 40 bronze to make it a total of 116 medals.

Team Oyo is in sixth with 29 gold, 28 silver, and 34 bronze for a total of 91 medals. Up next in seventh is Lagos with 18 gold, 24 silver, and 44 medals, totalling 86 medals.

Meanwhile, the Golden Eaglets defeated Team Kaduna 2-0 to claim the bronze medal in the men’s football event at the 2024 National Sports Festival

In the women’s category, Team Ogun defeated Team Osun 2-0 to win the bronze medal.

In Athletics, Team Bayelsa’s Lucky Daje won the gold medal in the men’s 200m final on Tuesday.

He recorded a personal best time of 20.94s to win the race ahead of Team Ogun’s Gafar Audu, who came second with a time of 20.95s.

In the women’s final, Chioma Cynthia Nweke won the gold medal with a time of 23.58s, Sophia Efetobore was second, and Tejiri Ugoh finished third.

Seun Ojeleye of Team Delta won double gold in the men’s 400m and 1500m T53-54 events.
