Media personality Daddy Freeze has reacted to viral reports suggesting he bowed to popular religious leader, Pastor Jerry Eze, during Obi Cubana’s star-studded “50 for 50” birthday celebration held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on Saturday.
A picture of Daddy Freeze greeting Pastor Jerry at the event sparked mixed reactions across social media, with many speculating that he bowed to the pastor despite their often contrasting religious perspectives. The speculation triggered a buzz, especially given Daddy Freeze’s history of critiquing some popular Nigerian pastors and religious practices.
However, the OAP and social commentator has now set the record straight. Taking to his Instagram page, Daddy Freeze explained that he did not bow to Pastor Jerry, but merely leaned in for a handshake, something he says is common because of his height.
“I’m 6ft 1 tall. Sometimes when I’m reaching out to people, it seems like I’m bending,” he explained in a post addressing the viral narrative. He further emphasized that his gesture was nothing more than a courteous greeting and not a display of submission or reverence as many had assumed.
Known for his outspoken views on religion and doctrine, Daddy Freeze noted that Pastor Jerry is a very humble person as they engaged each other for over 2 hours. “I sat beside Pastor Jerry for about 2 hours and we spoke. He is one of the most humble people I’ve met. Let’s even imagine I bowed to him. Why not? He is very humble,” he said.
The incident has stirred fresh debates online about social conduct, public perception, and the expectations placed on public figures, especially when their personal beliefs clash with traditional or religious norms.
Meanwhile, the “50 for 50” event was a night of glitz and glamor, attracting top celebrities, entrepreneurs, and influential figures from all walks of life.
