Nearly a year after the tragic death of Nigerian music sensation Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, fresh legal light has been cast on the case. The Lagos State Coroner’s Court sitting in Ikorodu has concluded its inquest into the singer’s death, ruling out foul play or homicide but recommending the criminal prosecution of auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, for her alleged role in the incident.
Delivering the verdict on Friday, Magistrate C.A. Shotobi revealed that Ogedengbe acted with gross negligence, having administered a drug to the late singer without proper medical authorization.
“In line with Section 29 of the Coroner Laws of Lagos State, this court recommends that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, initiate appropriate legal action against Feyisayo Ogedengbe for unauthorized medical practice and gross negligence,” Magistrate Shotobi stated.
While the ruling dismissed theories of intentional harm or criminal homicide, it strongly criticized the nurse’s conduct as “unlawful and professionally irresponsible.”
Mohbad’s death on September 11, 2023, shocked fans across Nigeria and beyond, triggering nationwide protests, candlelight processions, and fierce demands for justice. The 27-year-old rapper and singer, known for his soulful lyrics and street anthems, passed away under mysterious circumstances just as his solo career was gaining momentum.
Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who was arrested shortly after Mohbad’s death, had earlier confessed during a March 2025 court session to giving him a tetanus injection, which allegedly led to severe reactions. According to eyewitness accounts and her own testimony, Mohbad began vomiting and exhibited distressing symptoms shortly after the drug was administered.
The court’s ruling marks a critical development in the ongoing legal and public battle for accountability in Mohbad’s case. With the recommendation now forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution, the ball is in the state’s court to pursue charges that could redefine how unauthorized medical practice is handled in Nigeria.
Mohbad’s tragic end continues to resonate deeply in the hearts of fans, many of whom hope this verdict brings a step closer to justice not just for the singer, but for the safety and rights of every Nigerian.
