Chicago police have charged a 34-year-old man in connection with a deadly shooting on a CTA train late last year.
Pedro Villarreal faces several felony charges, including first-degree murder and attempted murder.
The arrest follows a collaborative investigation between the Chicago and Cicero Police Departments.
Authorities took Villarreal into custody on January 10, 2026, in the 1200 block of South 49th Avenue in Cicero.
Police identified Villarreal as the gunman who opened fire on a train in the 100 block of North Wells on December 23, 2025.
The shooting claimed the life of a 44-year-old man.
A second victim, a 23-year-old male, was seriously injured in the attack but survived.
Villarreal also faces charges for aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.
Additionally, he received a citation for trespassing on CTA property without paying.
The suspect is scheduled for a detention hearing today, January 12, 2026, at the courthouse located at 2600 South California.
Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting.
