A 20-year-old man has been identified as the person shot and killed by a Chicago police officer on the North Side, following an incident earlier this week.
What Happened
The fatal shooting occurred around 10:25 p.m. Tuesday in the 5700-block of North Washtenaw Avenue in the West Ridge neighborhood.
Officials from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Roberto Calvario, Jr., of Albany Park.
Police Encounter

Officers were investigating a stolen, parked car when a different sedan, containing two men and one woman, pulled up next to it.

Two men from the second car got out and allegedly tried to enter the stolen vehicle. Police approached them.

One man ran away. Calvario allegedly got back into his sedan.

Officers told Calvario to get out of the car, but he refused, and a struggle began.

During the struggle, Calvario accelerated the car, dragging the officer.

The officer fired their weapon, striking Calvario in the head.

The sedan crashed into an unoccupied parked car.
Aftermath

Calvario was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he later died.

The officer who fired the weapon sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

A woman at the scene was taken into custody.

Police recovered two firearms at the scene.
Investigation
The shooting is currently under investigation by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA), the independent agency responsible for police misconduct and use-of-force cases in Chicago.
