A Chicago man remains behind bars today after a violent smash-and-grab at a luxury Hinsdale boutique.
Monroe Shivers, 33, faces multiple felony charges for allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase following the burglary.
A judge ordered Shivers to be held in jail while he awaits trial, citing his history of being out on bond for a previous burglary.
His three alleged accomplices were also charged but were released from custody due to current Illinois state laws.

The group is accused of targeting the Kelsey Resale Boutique on Washington Street around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Police say a group of masked thieves kicked in the store’s door and snatched designer purses, jewelry, and luxury shoes.
Officers arrived on the scene within minutes and spotted two getaway vehicles fleeing the area.

Monroe Shivers allegedly drove a Nissan Altima that refused to stop for police sirens and emergency lights.
The chase ended near the Hinsdale train depot after Shivers allegedly blew through stop signs to escape.
Three suspects were caught after a short foot chase, while a fourth was found hours later after a “suspicious person” report.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin praised the quick police work but criticized the mandatory release of the co-defendants.
Berlin argued that judges should have more power to keep defendants in jail based on the facts of the crime.
The three released men, Cortney Shivers, Ronnie Hardy, and Jeremiah Brown, are charged with burglary and theft.

Police are still searching for additional suspects who were seen fleeing in a grey SUV.
All four defendants are scheduled to return to court on February 23.
Authorities reminded the public that all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
