A 23-year-old Chicago man is facing first-degree murder charges after allegedly shooting his sister to death on the city’s South Side.
Police arrested Travale Smith on January 9, 2026, just hours after the fatal shooting occurred.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Edshanie Williams.
Officers responded to a call in the 7100 block of South Ridgeland Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood.
Investigators say Smith fatally shot Williams at that location before fleeing the scene.
Police located and arrested Smith around 3:17 p.m. in the 1300 block of East 60th Street.
Smith faces one felony count of first-degree murder and one felony count of unlawful weapon possession.
Sources close to the investigation tell us that the suspect and the victim were siblings.
The motive behind the shooting has not yet been released by investigators.
