A 19-year-old Chicago man is in custody after police discovered a loaded gun with an altered serial number during a traffic stop in Ford Heights.
On the evening of December 29, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Cook County Sheriff’s Police stopped a Honda in the 1600 block of East Lincoln Highway.
Officers initiated the stop after observing a traffic violation.
According to authorities, the driver, Patrick Johnson, attempted to get out of the car but was ordered by officers to remain seated.
During the interaction, police reported a strong smell of burnt cannabis coming from the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the car revealed:

A loaded firearm with a defaced serial number.

Approximately 19 grams of suspected cannabis.
Investigators confirmed that Johnson did not possess a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card or a concealed carry license.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Johnson with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Following a court appearance at the Markham Courthouse on December 30, Johnson was ordered to remain in the custody of the Cook County Jail.
