What was meant to be a routine day on a Nollywood film set spiraled into chaos and controversy on Saturday, after actor Godwin Nnadiekwe suffered a serious injury during a shoot, resulting in internal bleeding and an emergency hospital visit.
The incident, which has since sparked widespread outrage across social media, reportedly occurred when fellow actor and popular Nollywood star Zubby Michael launched a violent and unscripted attack on Nnadiekwe.
In a series of emotional posts, Nnadiekwe recounted the harrowing moment, revealing that he was kicked forcefully in the chest by Michael during a scene. “To be clear, the kick was neither planned nor rehearsed, and was entirely unscripted,” the injured actor wrote.
A disturbing video later shared online corroborates his account. In the footage, Zubby Michael is seen exiting a vehicle, leaping over a barricade, and delivering a powerful kick to Nnadiekwe’s chest before disappearing into a nearby building. The attack was not part of the script and reportedly took place without the knowledge or approval of the production team.
“The action was unauthorized and completely outside the director’s planned sequence. It happened without my consent,” Nnadiekwe added.
Initially reluctant to name his assailant directly, the actor’s tone shifted as the video made clear who was responsible. “During a scene, I received a kick to the chest from my colleague that wasn’t part of the script or directed by the director,” he explained. “It caused me serious pains. Had to get medication for my chest to feel better today. I did all these by myself. No assistance!”
Nnadiekwe also used the incident to raise alarm over the lack of safety protocols on Nigerian film sets. “Without proper insurance and immediate medical care on set, unforeseen physical scenes can have devastating effects… What if the outcome had been worse?” he questioned.
Following the online uproar and his own public appeals, his management released an official statement confirming that Nnadiekwe’s condition had deteriorated, leading to his admission into a hospital for emergency treatment.
“We regret to inform you that Actor Godwin Nnadiekwe was rushed to the hospital this evening,” the statement read. “He is undergoing treatment for internal bleeding caused by a chest injury sustained during a film shoot with Zubby Michael.”
As fans and industry insiders demand answers, the incident has reignited conversations about safety, accountability, and professionalism within Nollywood, calling for immediate reform to prevent similar episodes in the future.
