A flight meant to be a routine trip from Asaba to Lagos turned into a full-blown spectacle after social activist Verydarkman (VDM) and entertainer-turned-politician Mr Jollof engaged in a heated physical fight onboard a United Nigeria Airlines aircraft. The dramatic incident, captured in a viral video, has dominated social media conversations since Monday.
In the circulating clip, passengers were thrown into panic as the long-feuding duo traded blows inside the plane. Their clash quickly escalated, forcing other passengers, including popular comedian Funny Bone to intervene in an attempt to separate the men.
Witnesses said the confrontation began shortly after boarding, when both men unexpectedly found themselves in the same cabin. Tensions rose almost immediately, leading to the explosive altercation that caused commotion and temporarily disrupted pre-flight procedures.
The hostility between Verydarkman and Mr Jollof dates back over a year, when the two engaged in a bitter social media feud. During the heated online exchange, both men vowed to physically confront each other if they ever met in person. Monday’s clash appears to be the fulfillment of that threat.
After the incident, Verydarkman took to social media to give his side of the story, alleging that Mr Jollof bit him during the confrontation. He showed a wound on his arm in a follow-up video, accusing his rival of resorting to “animalistic behavior.”
The footage has since sparked widespread criticism, with many Nigerians condemning both men for engaging in violent conduct in a sensitive environment such as an aircraft, where passengers’ safety is paramount.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has also taken interest in the matter. The Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, called for an official investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the in-flight fight.
Commenting under the viral clip, Achimugu wrote:
“If you are kind enough to provide the name of the airline in whose aircraft this incident occurred, and the date, it would help investigations.”
As the NCAA begins digging into the details, many Nigerians are calling for disciplinary action to serve as a deterrent, stressing that airline cabins are no place for personal battles, no matter how long-standing.
