Global Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy gave fans and footballers a thrilling surprise on Tuesday as he took the stage during the England Women’s Euro trophy parade at Buckingham Palace, leaving thousands in awe, especially England’s women’s team manager, Sarina Wiegman, who was visibly excited to see her favourite artiste perform live.
The Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, joined the Lionesses on stage to celebrate their historic win over Spain, where they triumphed 3-1 on penalties after a dramatic 1-1 draw in extra time to retain their European Championship title.
As the crowd of over 100,000 fans erupted in cheers, Burna Boy performed his hit single ‘For My Hand’ featuring British pop star Ed Sheeran, an emotional and melodic song that lit up the entire celebration. The moment was even more special as Sarina Wiegman, a long-time fan of the ‘African Giant’, beamed with joy during the surprise appearance.
“Burna Boy surprises England Women’s Manager as her favourite artiste with a performance during the team’s Euro trophy parade,” a viral post captioned the moment, now making rounds on social media.
The electrifying performance had the Lionesses and their fans buzzing, singing, and bouncing to the rhythm, adding a cultural highlight to the football victory celebration.
This isn’t Burna Boy’s first time delivering a historic performance on a major sporting stage. In 2023, he etched his name in history books as the first-ever African artiste to perform at a UEFA Champions League final, joining Brazilian pop star Anitta as co-headliners for the Kick Off Show before the final clash in Istanbul.
From Champions League stadiums to royal parades, Burna Boy continues to break boundaries, making it clear that Afrobeats now belong on the world’s biggest stages including football’s finest moments.
