Global Afrobeats sensation and Grammy award-winning artist, Damini Ogulu better known as Burna Boy has revealed that fans hoping to see him start a family soon may need to wait a little longer.
In a candid conversation on BBC Radio 1Xtra in London, the 34-year-old singer opened up about his thoughts on settling down and why starting a family isn’t on his immediate agenda. For Burna Boy, life on the road and the demands of a non-stop international music career have made it difficult to carve out space for personal milestones like parenthood.
When asked by the interviewer if starting a family was something he was planning in the near future, Burna Boy replied honestly:
“Yeah, but I don’t want to start that on the road. I’m not planning of quitting tours anytime soon, so I don’t know where to now put that [starting a family]; find a middle ground.”
The ‘Last Last’ hitmaker, known for his electrifying performances across continents and back-to-back arena shows, emphasized that he doesn’t see himself slowing down professionally anytime soon. And with a schedule packed with global tours, late-night studio sessions, and promotional duties, Burna Boy believes that bringing a child into that kind of lifestyle wouldn’t be fair either to the child or himself.
Burna Boy also shared an interesting revelation during the interview: he hasn’t taken a proper vacation since his career took off, and that’s largely because he doesn’t have kids.
“One of the reasons I don’t go on holidays is because I don’t have children,” he noted.
This glimpse into Burna Boy’s personal life adds another layer to the persona of the African Giant. While fans continue to celebrate his musical triumphs, it’s clear that behind the fame is a man grappling with the universal challenge of balancing career ambitions with personal desires.
For now, it seems Burna Boy is married to the music and plans to continue riding the wave of global success before turning his focus to building a family.
