Lagos residents who use Bolt for rides face higher prices this December. The ride-hailing app raises fares because more people need trips during the holidays. This change affects daily commutes and outings across the city.
A Bolt driver named Bankole spoke to BestLagos.ng about the issue. He has driven for Bolt for three years. Bankole explained that the price increase starts in December due to high demand.
“The fares go up because everyone wants a ride at the same time,” he said. This surge makes trips cost more than usual.
Bankole shared a useful tip to beat the high prices. He noted that fares drop back to normal levels around January 6-10 of the next year.
“By early January, things calm down, and prices return to what they were,” Bankole added. Riders can save money by planning non-urgent trips after that date. For now, he suggests checking the app often or sharing rides with others to cut costs.
This price shift happens every year during busy seasons. Many Lagos users have noticed the change on their apps. One rider, Abisola from Ikeja, said her usual trip now costs 50% more. “I have to think twice before booking,” she told us.
Bolt has not commented on the exact reasons for the surge this year. However, drivers like Bankole confirm it ties to holiday travel. As Lagos gears up for the festive period, riders should stay alert to fare changes.
