Another shooting involving federal agents has occurred in Minneapolis just one week after a previous deadly incident.
The City of Minneapolis confirmed the reports on social media, stating they are working to verify further details about the North Minneapolis encounter.
Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin reported that the incident involved Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
DHS Provides Details on “Violent Ambush”
Homeland Security released an update stating that at 6:50 PM CT, federal officers were conducting a targeted traffic stop.
The target was identified as an illegal alien from Venezuela who was released into the country in 2022.
The subject reportedly fled the scene in his vehicle and crashed into a parked car before fleeing on foot.
A law enforcement officer caught up to the subject, but the individual began to resist and violently assault the officer.
While the two were struggling on the ground, two other individuals emerged from a nearby apartment.
These individuals attacked the officer with a snow shovel and a broom handle.
During the ambush, the original suspect got loose and also began striking the officer with a shovel or broom stick.
Fearing for his life while being attacked by three people, the officer fired defensive shots.
The initial suspect was hit in the leg before all three subjects retreated and barricaded themselves inside an apartment.
The attacked officer and the primary subject are both in the hospital, and all attackers are in custody.
Homeland Security noted that federal officers are facing a 1,300% increase in assaults against them.
The department criticized local leaders, claiming their rhetoric encourages resistance against federal law enforcement.
