Reactions have poured in following the dramatic boxing match between controversial singer Portable and rapper Speed Darlington, where Portable emerged victorious with a first-round knockout on Saturday at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Lagos.
The bout, which was heavily hyped and tagged “Chaos In The Ring,” ended sooner than expected, as Speed Darlington, popularly known as “Akpi,” suffered a hand injury and quit the fight before the bell for round two. This defeat has sparked mixed reactions across social media, especially from Speed Darlington’s fan base who are disappointed in their icon’s performance.
For many of his loyal followers, the rapper’s decision to step down after sustaining the injury seemed like a convenient excuse. They accused him of chasing clout and money rather than truly seeking to settle scores or prove his strength in the ring.
“He intentionally did it. He just wants money, leave Akpi, he is interested in the money, that’s all,” one fan wrote. Another added, “Akpi no want stress, na just cashout him come do.”
On the other hand, Portable’s fans are basking in the glory of their star’s second boxing victory. The Zazu crooner had earlier defeated actor Charles Okocha in a similar celebrity bout, making this his second consecutive win and further fueling his reputation as a street king who backs his talk with action.
The feud between Portable and Speed Darlington had been brewing for weeks after Portable rejected a ₦500,000 performance offer from Darlington, claiming it was an insult to his brand. Their verbal clashes eventually led to the much-publicized match.
With this win, Portable continues to dominate the celebrity boxing scene, proving once again that behind the controversy lies a fighter who knows how to land a knockout, literally.
