Nollywood star Dayo Amusa has moved swiftly to shut down rumours about her health, after being falsely linked to claims of living with HIV.
The speculation began after content creator Olaoluwa Segun published a video naming the actress among five Nigerian actors allegedly battling the virus. The allegation quickly spread online, sparking conversations and raising concerns among fans.
In response, Amusa took to social media to denounce the claims, describing them as false, malicious, and damaging to her reputation.
She reminded the public that as far back as 2019, she had openly shared her HIV-negative result as part of a health awareness campaign. At the time, her aim was to encourage Nigerians to get tested regularly, not because she was infected.
However, with the rumours resurfacing, the actress decided to take a firmer stand. On Tuesday, Amusa shared photographic evidence of her latest HIV test result via Instagram, once again confirming her HIV-negative status.
She also threatened legal action against the originator of the allegations, warning against the dangers of spreading unverified information about people’s health.
Beyond clearing her name, Amusa seized the moment to continue her advocacy. She urged fans and Nigerians in general to take their health seriously by making HIV testing a regular practice.
“I still feel the need to encourage individuals to get tested and know their HIV status. It is better to know your status so that you can guide yourself and save others too,” she wrote.
Her bold response has earned her praise from fans and colleagues who applauded her for confronting the rumours head-on while using the opportunity to spread awareness.
