The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has taken decisive disciplinary action against Nollywood actress Shirley Igwe, placing her on indefinite suspension following a reported altercation on a movie set.
According to multiple reports, the actress allegedly slapped a member of the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN) during a film production, an incident that sparked outrage within the industry and led to swift intervention by the AGN.
In a formal statement circulated to its state chapter chairmen and the national executive council, the AGN confirmed that Igwe had been suspended indefinitely. The Guild emphasized that the suspension would remain in place pending the outcome of a thorough investigation into the incident.
“The suspension is due to violence and indiscipline actions capable of discrediting the acting profession,” the statement read, signaling the AGN’s commitment to maintaining professionalism and integrity within the Nigerian film industry.
The Guild also issued a directive to its members, instructing them to “refrain from participating in any film production involving her” until further notice.
While Shirley Igwe has yet to make a public statement addressing the allegations, the incident has sparked conversations across social media and within Nollywood circles about the importance of discipline, respect, and accountability on set.
Igwe, who rose to fame through her roles in Nollywood films and once served as a Principal Protocol Officer to former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, now finds her career at a potential crossroads as she faces scrutiny from her professional peers.
This development adds to a growing call within the entertainment industry for stricter codes of conduct and enforcement mechanisms to protect all creative professionals both in front of and behind the camera.
