Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has opened up about the career she might have pursued if she hadn’t ventured into music.
During an interactive Q&A session with fans on X on Tuesday, a follower asked what profession she would be in today if music hadn’t worked out. Tems replied that she would likely have become an accountant or a mathematics teacher.
The Grammy-winning singer has previously shared that she resigned from her job as a digital marketer in January 2018 to chase her musical dreams full-time. She went on to release her debut single, Mr Rebel, in July of the same year; a track that earned her early recognition in the Nigerian music scene.
Her major breakthrough came in 2020 after featuring on Wizkid’s global hit Essence, which soared to number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 following the Justin Bieber-assisted remix, cementing her status as one of Africa’s biggest rising stars.
