Nigerian rapper and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has sparked a fresh wave of civic action as he urges citizens to demand greater transparency and accountability in the country’s fight against insecurity.
In a message shared across his social media platforms, Falz called on Nigerians to contact their lawmakers directly through emails, phone calls, and WhatsApp messages to insist on a PUBLIC hearing on the nation’s counter-terrorism approach.
He also provided a message template for citizens to send to their representatives and senators, which reads in part:
“Dear Hon/Sen, as your constituent, I am urging you to call for a PUBLIC hearing to address the strategy to defeat terrorism…”
Falz’s call comes at a time of heightened public frustration, following weeks of violent attacks, kidnappings, and increased concerns that Nigeria’s security architecture may be poorly coordinated or under-equipped. Many Nigerians have expressed dissatisfaction with what they see as a lack of transparency and urgency from the government.
In a related development, media commentator Daniel Regha took aim at the widespread media amplification of remarks by Islamic cleric Sheikh Gumi, who recently claimed that no government can completely eradicate terrorism. Regha argued that platforms giving Gumi attention are “part of the problem.”
The conversation highlights growing national anxiety over insecurity and a renewed push for accountability from both government institutions and public figures.
