Social media critic, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has issued a public apology following his much-publicised in-flight altercation with comedian Freedom Atsepoyi, aka Mr Jollof, which caused a delay on a United Nigeria Airlines flight.
The clash, which took place aboard a flight from Asaba to Lagos, was captured on video and showed both men engaging in a physical scuffle as fellow passengers attempted to intervene.
In a remorseful Instagram video on Tuesday, VeryDarkMan admitted he acted irresponsibly and accepted blame for the incident.
“I want to sincerely apologise for what happened yesterday on the United Nigeria Airlines flight. It shouldn’t have happened, and I take full responsibility,” he said.
He noted that the disruption may have affected passengers with urgent commitments.
“A lot of people on that flight had important things to do. My little moment of irresponsibility delayed them. Some could have had medical emergencies or business appointments. I don’t know the extent of the inconvenience I caused, and I’m truly sorry,” he stated.
Reflecting on the incident, he added that despite the social media banter that followed, he was disappointed in his own conduct.
“Looking back, I really didn’t like that part of me. Even though people turned it into cruise online, I acted irresponsibly.”
VeryDarkMan further assured Nigerians that such behaviour will not occur again, especially in public spaces.
