The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has condemned the viral in-flight altercation between social activist Verydarkman and influencer-politician Mr Jollof, warning that both men will face severe legal consequences for their actions.
In a strongly worded statement issued by Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, the aviation regulator described the fight captured on a United Nigeria Airlines flight enroute Asaba to Lagos as “unacceptable, dangerous, and a threat to aviation safety.”
“There is zero tolerance for unruly behaviour aboard an aircraft,” Achimugu declared. “Both individuals will face the full strength of the law for endangering fellow passengers and crew.”
According to him, the fight was particularly disappointing given that both men command large online followings and often preach against disruptive behaviour.
“It is even more shameful when one considers that both of them are partners in educating their millions of followers to avoid unruly conduct,” he added.
Achimugu revealed that he became aware of the viral video while onboard another flight and immediately alerted Consumer Protection Officers to begin preliminary checks. The next procedural step, he said, is for the airline involved to file an official report with the NCAA. Once received, the authority’s legal department will assess the incident and determine appropriate sanctions.
He stressed that the behaviour of the two men did not only violate civil aviation rules but could have had catastrophic consequences.
“Their actions put the safety of all passengers, the crew, and the aircraft itself at serious risk,” the spokesperson said.
Achimugu also raised concerns over whether the flight crew took proper action, questioning if the duo were deplaned after the confrontation.
“If they were allowed to continue the flight to their destination, there will be consequences,” he warned.
The NCAA reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to tackling unruly behaviour within the aviation sector, noting that the agency has invested heavily in public sensitization.
“No matter what led to the fracas, there is no excuse that makes such conduct acceptable,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, both Verydarkman and Mr Jollof are currently in the custody of the Delta State Airport Police Command, as authorities continue investigations into the incident.
The confrontation, which has dominated social media conversations, has reignited concerns about the rising cases of disorderly conduct on flights and the need for stricter enforcement to ensure passenger safety.
